Wreath Making Workshop

with Anne Daniels

Start Christmas early this year by spending a great half day crafting your own Christmas wreath. Without any previous experience you can make your own unique wreath!

You will be provided with a 12inch metal wreath ring to form the base of your wreath, and then wind sprigs of greenery around the base with wire, to obtain a greenery base. The next layer is then made of further  decorative greenery such as holly and ivy, followed by the addition of some further decorative items of your choice on top of the greenery.  Sprigs of conifers, holly and ivy will be supplied as greenery, and pine cones as decoration.

It would be advisable to collect and bring other items you would like to add into the final layer of your wreath, such as small Christmas decorations, lights, or baubles or other natural materials. Some ribbon and baubles will be available to purchase on the day, but if you would like a ribbon bow of a particular colour please bring your own ribbon.

It is ESSENTIAL to bring:

  • an apron to cover your clothes,

  • some gloves (either gardening or plastic) to protect your hands,

  • pair of SECATEURS or old SCISSORS for cutting foliage (and wire cutters would be useful).

And, if you wish, ribbon and additional small Christmas decorations /baubles, tinsel etc.

“Outstanding. The best wreath workshop I have ever attended!” - 2023 participant

Holistic Gardening Series

Whether you are new to horticulture or have years of experience, there is always something to learn in the garden.  These workshops combine hands on, practical knowledge and an introduction to the theories behind working in partnership with nature.

Subjects will include, how to garden using organic methods, understanding soil, nature-based garden design as well as food and flower growing.

These workshops will provide a good basis for holistic gardening through theory and practice.  Each workshop can be booked as a standalone session.

Workshops take place on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Meet the tutor: Rachel Tappin

After working in radio, and business management for more than 20 years, Rachel chose to turn her passion for horticulture and nature into a new career.  Rachel leads gardening workshops with nature at their core, she is trained in permaculture* which is a design method that uses nature as inspiration.  She has a Level 2 (City and Guild), Distinction, in the ‘Extended Certificate in Horticulture’ from OrganicLea.

Rachel has trained in social therapeutic horticulture and is motivated by the therapeutic benefits of gardening.  The majority of her work is focused at community-based settings; she works with and supports volunteers at various horticulture, well-being projects in North East London.

*Permaculture gardening is a holistic approach to gardening that seeks to integrate plants, animals, buildings, and people in a way that creates a harmonious ecosystem that can thrive on its own.  It is a way to work with the natural forces of wind, water and sun to create a more permanent, self-sustaining garden ecosystem in your own garden.  The design mimics nature so that you can garden organically, encourage the right wildlife and have a low maintenance garden in one hit.
